Mala Dharana is the most auspicious moment when the devotee takes an oath in front of the god to take up the deeksha and wears the garland with Blessing of Lord Ayyappa and the temple Priest.

One pair of Mala (2 garlands) should be taken to the temple and handed over to the priest informing him of your interest to take up deeksha.

A Mantra will be chanted by the Priest which you will have to utter the same whilst wearing the sacred tulasi mala with ayyappa's emblem hooked to it.

This Mala should not be removed in any situation until you complete the deeksha of 41 days.

After the completion of 41 days of Deeksha the devotees will travel to the most awaited Sabarimala to see and seek blessings of Lord ayyappa.

Mala Should not be removed by yourself or any other person in Pampa or midway after the Darshan. Remember that you are still under deeksha until you return back to the place where you started from.

Mala Visarjana should only be done by the temple priest or by your mother who are the only two people eligible to help you on that.
